What made me watch it?
The original Dexter was excellent, but when Dexter: New Blood was released to continue the story, I was left quite disappointed. The ending felt rushed and didn’t do justice to such a brilliant character. So, when I heard about Dexter: Resurrection, I was both intrigued and sceptical. Could they bring Dexter back in a way that felt authentic, especially after the cliffhanger in New Blood? Curiosity got the better of me, and I had to see how they would continue his journey.
Tagline: The Dark Passenger returns — sharper, darker, and more gripping than ever.
Physical Release Details:
- Premiere: Paramount+ Premium – 11 July 2025
- DVD/Blu-Ray/4K Release: To be announced
Plot:
The series picks up with Dexter in a new setting, exploring his mindset after the shocking events of New Blood. His main focus is searching for Harrison and trying to reconcile with him, while also establishing a new life for himself. We learn about Dexter’s latest profession, which cleverly ties into his double life. Along the way, we are reintroduced to familiar faces and meet new characters that add fresh layers to the narrative.
Music:
The score, composed by Pat Irwin, does exactly what a Dexter soundtrack should — it builds atmosphere, heightens tension, and adds a subtle undercurrent of unease that mirrors Dexter’s inner world. It’s not overpowering, but it lingers in the background, amplifying the suspense at just the right moments.
I’ll admit, I didn’t focus on the music as much this time around, mainly because the story itself had me utterly gripped from start to finish. Still, the soundtrack weaves in seamlessly, enhancing the mood without ever distracting from the drama.
Main Cast:
- Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan
- Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan
- Uma Thurman as Charley
- David Zayas as Angel Batista
- Peter Dinklage as Leon Prater
- James Remar as Harry Morgan - A welcome return.
Supporting cast includes both returning favourites and new faces that fit seamlessly into Dexter’s world.
Series Summary:
Dexter: Resurrection successfully revives one of television’s most fascinating characters. It manages to balance nostalgia with fresh storytelling, giving fans the continuation they craved while correcting some of the missteps of New Blood. The series is gripping, clever, and character-driven—everything a Dexter fan could want.
Verdict:
I honestly didn’t expect to love this series as much as the original, but to my surprise, I was completely hooked. Every Friday night became my weekly Dexter fix.
Overall, Dexter: Resurrection will leave you craving more. If you adored the original series, you’ll likely enjoy this one just as much.
For me, Dexter remains one of the best TV series I’ve ever watched, and this new instalment has earned its place on my top series list.
Michael C. Hall was born to play Dexter Morgan — he’s a true chameleon, shifting seamlessly into this role in a way that feels completely believable.
If you’re looking for a gripping, atmospheric, and character-driven drama, this is the show for you.
